Summer is going by so quickly and once again I can't believe how long it has been since my last update. I'm determined to keep this blog going not only for our family and friends that are watching Jake grow up remotely but also for Jake himself. I hope that one day he will be able to read through all my updates and be reminded of just how much he has always been loved.
We've had a fun summer so far. We've been able to spend time with friends and family, visit Tweetsie to see Thomas and take in a few great outdoor music festivals and concerts. Jake is potty trained now (just wearing something "in case" at night). He decided he was ready and that was that! We didn't have to do much real training at all. I'm so proud of my little man but oddly enough it makes me a little sad too because it's the final hurdle leaving the baby stage. You'll see a photo below of his new independence. We were lucky to get it because he was playing in his sand box while his Dad & I were doing something and Trip turned around just in time to spot him being a boy so to speak.
Trip's reminds me more and more frequently that Jake is already smarter than us and that we are in big trouble when he gets older. A couple of recent examples involve Trip's desk and a car parked down by the river. Since Trip works out of a home office and needs to maintain some kind of order on his desk we don't let Jake play in that room. Several weeks ago I was working on something in the office and Jake wanted to be in there with me. I told him that he could come in but that he was not to touch anything on Daddy's desk. A little while later he walked by me carrying a pad of those little sticky notes that you use to mark pages and there was a trail behind him ... little pieces of colored paper stuck to everything. I said ... "Jake I specifically told you not to touch anything on Daddy's desk". He did not hesitate even one second before he said... "Mama I didn't touch anything ON Daddy's desk. These were IN Daddy's desk." A couple of weeks later we were driving back home and we thought Jake was fully engrossed in his Leapfrog Explorer game and not even listening to us but we were wrong. We were driving along side the river and Trip saw a car parked down by the water and asked if I thought there was a house down there... I said I didn't think so and Trip wondered out load why that car would be parked down there if they didn't live there. Immediately we heard a little voice say... "they are probably fishing" and of course that was probably correct.

They went to see him, The Kruger Brothers and the
Carolina Chocolate Drops while I visited Mamaw & Papaw.

Doc Watson "seeing" his statue for the first time.
Mama & Daddy bought me a brick at the
new Doc Watson statue downtown.
Doc started his career playing on a street corner here so the
town decided to honor him with a statue. We were there for
the unveiling and celebration and I got to hear Doc play and sing.
Excavating is serious work!
